What is getsometext?

getsometext is a simple, free text-sharing service that lets you quickly transfer text between devices without creating an account. Just paste your text, get a unique session ID, and retrieve it on any other device.

How do I use it?

To send text:

Go to the homepage
Paste or type your text
Click "Generate Session ID"
Copy the generated ID (e.g., "happy-cat-742")

To receive text:

Switch to "Receive Text" mode
Enter the session ID
Click "Get Text"
Copy the text or delete it

How long is my text stored?

Your text is automatically deleted after 24 hours. You can also manually delete it immediately after retrieving it using the delete button.

Is my text private?

Your text is only accessible to anyone who has the session ID. Session IDs are randomly generated and difficult to guess. However, we recommend:

Don't share sensitive information (passwords, credit cards, etc.)
Delete your session after use
Only share the session ID with trusted recipients

While we implement security measures, no system is 100% secure. Use at your own discretion.

What's the maximum text size?

The maximum text size is 50 KB, which is approximately 50,000 characters or about 8,000-10,000 words. This is sufficient for most use cases.

Can I edit text after creating a session?

No, once a session is created, the text cannot be edited. You can delete it and create a new session with updated content.

What happens if someone else uses my session ID?

Session IDs are randomly generated with a very low probability of collision. If someone guesses or intercepts your session ID, they can access your text. Always:

Use the delete button after retrieving your text
Don't share session IDs in public places
Avoid sharing sensitive information

Do I need to create an account?

No! getsometext is completely anonymous. No account, no registration, no tracking (beyond essential cookies and analytics).

Can I use this for commercial purposes?

Yes, you can use getsometext for both personal and commercial purposes, as long as you comply with our Terms of Service.

What file formats are supported?

Currently, only plain text is supported. We do not support file uploads (images, PDFs, etc.). You can paste formatted text, but it will be stored as plain text.

Why do I see ads?

We display ads through Google AdSense to keep the service free. Ads help cover server costs and development. You can use an ad blocker if you prefer, though we appreciate your support!

Is getsometext open source?

The source code is available on GitHub at github.com/konstantinjordan/getsometext. Contributions are welcome!

Can I self-host getsometext?

Yes! getsometext is built with Next.js and can be deployed on Vercel, Netlify, or any Node.js hosting platform. Check the README on GitHub for deployment instructions.

What about GDPR compliance?

We are GDPR compliant. We:

Store minimal data (only text and session metadata)
Automatically delete all data after 24 hours
Use cookies only for essential functionality and ads
Provide a clear Privacy Policy
Don't track or profile users

Can I retrieve a deleted session?

No. Once a session is deleted (either manually or automatically after 24 hours), the data is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

Is there a mobile app?

Not yet, but the website is fully responsive and works great on mobile browsers! Simply visit getsometext from your phone's browser.

How do I report abuse or illegal content?

If you encounter illegal or abusive content, please report it immediately to legal@getsometext.com with the session ID and details.
